10 Commandments of Election

by Dhon72

  1. Thou shall not elect a person who’s profession is a religious leader or who comes from the rank of a religious order.

-         For it will only create imbalance between the church and the state. A nation’s leader who came from a religious order has a tendency of becoming an authoritarian rule that creates Dominionism and much worst Fanaticism.

-         Fanaticism creates Holy War and breeds Religious Terrorism.

-         Fanaticism suppresses Scientific Progress (e.g. Galileo vs. Roman Inquisitor).

-    Fanaticism suppress Arts and Literature (e.g. Taliban destroyed the Bamyan Buddhas in Afghanistan and Muslim religious leader Ayatollah Khomeini issued a religious edict condemning author Salman Rushdie to death for the publication of the book The Satanic Verses).

-         Fanaticism creates Racial Injustice (e.g. Ku Klux Klan who believes that white race is closer to God than any other races).

-         Fanaticism creates Sexual Discrimination (believing women are inferior to men thus depriving them of opportunities and while homosexuals treated to be as immoral thus depriving them of freedom in society and worst become a victim of hate and prejudice thus resulting for their death).

  1. Thou shall not elect a person to be a nation’s leader who comes from the ranks of trader and merchants alike.

-         Find me a merchant that who is not sly and crafty; always remember a wise and clever merchant will never invest on things until he knows what profits he will rake from it.

  1. Thou shall not elect a leader just because who’s blood that runs from his veins comes from a great leader.

-         As always an Apple tree will not bear a Mango fruit the same way that good never begets evil. But sometimes a Good tree will never always bear sweet fruits, and on some occasions we get a malformed, rotten and a sour one. The same way it is not guaranteed that a man will follow or walk the same path what his predecessor (great ancestor) did.

  1. Thou shall not elect a leader that is smart and relies in its own skills and intelligence.

-         Promoting oneself just because of educational excellence is not a guarantee that this person will also excel when it comes to leadership. A leader who relies on his own skills, intelligence and ability is good, but the one who relies in the Wisdom of God is far more greater. Intelligence and Knowledge lives in the mind in which that can be corrupted but Wisdom lives in the Heart, the resting place of the one true God.

  1. Thou shall not elect a person just for the sake of popularity.

-         For “Popularity is the easiest thing in the world to gain and it is the hardest thing to hold” ~ Will Rogers

-         You should “Seek not the favor of the multitude; it is seldom got by honest and lawful means. But seek the testimony of few; and number not voices, but weigh them.” ~ Immanuel Kant

  1. Thou shall not elect the one who acts like a puppet.

-     A puppet will always be a slave to its master whether it be money, syndicate, corporate elite or another country. The freedom of the people and the Nation itself will be at stake when a person like this is elected.

  1. Thou shall not elect the loud one.

-         The loud one always attracts attention, always looks at the negative side, and loves to criticize. He will only cause division amongst the people and hinders the progress of his nation.

  1. Thou shall not elect the young and inexperience one.

-         Yet it is good to have a young, strong and vibrant leader but his inexperience will always be his downfall and his nation as well but the wisdom of the old one will always lead his nation abundantly.

-         Old men’s eyes are like old men’s memories; they are strongest for things a long way off. ~ George Eliot, Romola

  1. Thou shall not elect the one who is insane.

-         The insane one is a product of the belief system that is not working. Proposing a solution by mending a mistake by creating another one is surely a sign of insanity like a nude lady running wildly in and out of her house.

  1. Thou shall not elect the idiot.

-         For the Idiot will only makes it worst, doesn’t know how to say No and always love to say Yes.

-     Any man can make mistakes, but only an idiot persists in his error ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero

-         As usual, there is a great woman behind every idiot ~ John Lennon, get what I mean.

We need a transformational leader; the one who is not only the best but also can deliver the needs of the people. The one who has a political will to govern the country, the one that can lead with an Iron Hand but with a compassionate heart. A type of leader, who can turn the impossibility into a possible one, he is a man of word and a man of action. This is the type of a leader we want to lead us for a better Philippines.

Tomorrow, May 10, 2010 Philippines will hold an election for a new president. A test for my country that was besets with so many problems (corruption, political division, natural calamities, injustices, etc.) in the past and at the present as well.

It will be a make or break for all of us; a wrong choice or decision will only push us much deeper down the drain. Our country’s future and our children’s future will depend on the outcome of our choices, may the wisdom of the almighty God be upon each one us.

Leaders aren't born they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. And that's the price we'll have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal. ~ Vince Lombardi
